Awake IL SUPPORTS HB2607 | THE FREEDOM ACT
HB 2607 Amends the Code of Criminal Procedure of 1963. Provides that there is a rebuttable presumption that the testimony of a victim who is a child under 13 years of age shall testify outside the courtroom and the child's testimony shall be shown in the courtroom by means of a closed circuit television. Provides that this presumption may be overcome if the defendant can prove by clear and convincing evidence that the child victim will not suffer severe emotional distress.
For Your Information:
House bills and Senate bills have a number that can be referenced at the Illinois House and Senate websites. Each bill is sponsored by a legislator or team of legislators whose names are listed. Citizens are encouraged to write their legislators regarding their thoughts on any current bill and the impact it may have on our community.
This is an avenue to either support (proponent) or oppose (opponent) a bill that is being legislated. By filling out a Witness Slip as a citizen you can list "self" versus organization, party, etc. and legislators will have a record of citizens who support or oppose any particular bill. Citizens are encouraged to submit a Witness Slip on any bill that may affect you/the community.
Click here to visit the Illinois State Board of Elections where you may type in your address and it will show a list of your assigned state legislators.
